Isadora ( Isa ) Friedlander was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica where she began practicing judo. During her time training in Costa Rica, she became a two-time national champion and was a member of the junior national team. She medaled at the 2012 US Open representing Costa Rica before moving to New York to attend college in 2013. While at school, Isa became the 2017 US national champion at 63 kg. She began competing internationally for the United States in 2018. This marks the beginning of her Olympic run, as she sets her sights on qualifying for the 2024 Olympic judo team. She holds a bachelors degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Evolutionary Biology.
